Anything abandoned gives us the creeps, and if you make that abandoned building or area a theme park, all bets are off. The faded colors. The broken rides. The smiling mascots are frozen in place long after the crowds have disappeared. It's got a creep factor of 11.

Now imagine if someone mashed Disneyland together with BioShock, sprinkled in a healthy dose of fairy tale horror, and handed you an arsenal of bizarre weapons to survive the experience. This sounds like a vacation of epic proportion if you were us, but we digress.

That's exactly what Atmos Games is bringing to players with Twisted Tower.

Publisher Saber Interactive's 3D Realms label and indie developer Atmos Games have announced that the first person action adventure will launch Aug. 18 on PC via Steam, inviting players inside an abandoned 1950s resort where every smiling mascot wants you dead.

FROM THE PRESS RELEASE: Developed by Thomas Brush, the creator behind Pinstripe and Neversong, Twisted Tower follows a young man climbing the mysterious tower at the center of the abandoned attraction in hopes of rescuing the love of his life. Standing in his way are corrupted fairy tale mascots, deadly traps, environmental puzzles, and the disturbing secrets hidden throughout the once magical resort.

The game unfolds across five distinct themed areas, including a haunted hotel, an abandoned water park, a clown casino, a carnival forest, and even a forgotten space station. Players will also discover branching paths that encourage multiple playthroughs, revealing new areas and story elements with each climb.

Rather than relying on conventional firearms, Twisted Tower arms players with an absurd collection of toy-inspired weaponry, including a Whack-a-Mole mallet, rubber band pistol, dart-firing Tommy gun, farting shotgun, bubblegum-spitting chain gun, sniper slingshot, and even a skull-popping ray gun.

As players progress through the resort, they'll also collect strange toys that unlock new movement abilities, allowing them to jump, dash, and grapple their way toward the tower's summit.

For horror fans, the game's visual style may be its biggest draw. The colorful, family-friendly aesthetic quickly gives way to something far more sinister, turning familiar amusement park iconography into a playground of blood-soaked nightmares.

If the latest trailer is any indication, Twisted Tower could become one of the more unique horror releases of the summer.

Twisted Tower launches Aug. 18 exclusively for PC via Steam. Wishlist the game now ahead of its opening day.
