A new take on the classic monster tale is rising from the sands with Lee Cronin’s "The Mummy", this one hopes to stick to the supernatural scares rather than a full-on adventure epic we've seen in the past.  Directed and written by "Evil Dead Rise" filmmaker Lee Cronin, the story is a bit different than what we might assume. It's a little more grounded in mystery and the unknown, which we really like and think Cronin will do a good job with. Will we see a Boris Karloff-style Mummy reboot anytime soon? That's another question for the ages.

“This is a very different kind of Mummy movie,” Cronin previously said at Bloody Disgusting. “It’s an insane mashup to suggest, but [the film is] almost one part Poltergeist and one part Seven, but put through my lens and the way that I like to entertain people.”

SYNOPSIS: The young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace— eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare.

The movie stars Jack Reynor alongside Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace, and Verónica Falcón, and marks a fresh horror‑centric reimagining of the famed mummy mythos backed by producers James Wan, Jason Blum, and John Keville through Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, with distribution handled by Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema.

Slated for theatrical and IMAX release on April 17, 2026, the film’s first trailer has already showcased unsettling imagery and atmosphere that set it apart from previous entries in the franchise, promising a darker and more chilling experience for audiences.
