It's time for high adventure, ancient curses, and enough flesh-eating mummies to make every Egyptologist lose a little sleep.
If there was one announcement that had horror fans dusting off their copies of The Mummy, it was the reveal that Radio Silence would be taking the reins of a fourth installment in Brendan Fraser's beloved franchise. Now, the film has become an even bigger family reunion as two more familiar faces have officially climbed out of the tomb.
According to Deadline, Kevin J. O'Connor and Oded Fehr are returning for the next chapter, joining previously announced stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz and John Hannah. Also joining the cast is Numan Acar (Spider-Man: Far From Home), though his role remains firmly under wraps.
For longtime fans, O'Connor's return is easily one of the biggest surprises. We all remember how he went out in the first film.
The actor memorably portrayed the greedy, cowardly Beni Gabor in 1999's The Mummy, a character whose fate seemed all but sealed after being trapped inside Hamunaptra with an army of flesh-hungry scarab beetles. Then again, this is The Mummy we're talking about. Death has never been much more than a minor inconvenience when ancient curses are involved.
Fehr's return is equally exciting.
He reprises his role as Ardeth Bay, the fearless Medjai warrior whose sole mission was keeping Imhotep and other supernatural horrors buried where they belong. His chemistry with Fraser helped make the original films such enduring fan favorites, and seeing the pair reunite nearly three decades later is sure to be one of the film's biggest draws.
While plot details remain buried deeper than the City of the Dead itself, Radio Silence has assembled a creative team that should have horror fans cautiously optimistic. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have built a reputation for balancing horror, humor and crowd-pleasing spectacle with films like Ready or Not, Scream and Abigail. If anyone understands how to blend action with genuine monster mayhem, it's this duo.
David Coggeshall (Orphan: First Kill) penned the screenplay, while Project X Entertainment's William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein are producing. Fraser will also serve as an executive producer alongside Jason F. Brown and Denis Stewart.
The original 1999 The Mummy remains one of the rare adventure films that successfully balanced horror, comedy and blockbuster action without losing sight of what made its monsters memorable. Fans have been asking for this reunion for years, and with Fraser, Weisz, Hannah, Fehr and now O'Connor all returning, Radio Silence appears determined to honor that legacy instead of reinventing it.
The Mummy rises from the sands on Oct. 15, 2027.
