The truth is out there when it comes to Ryan Coogler's new take on The X-Files, but right now the truth is still frustratingly incomplete.
As first reported by Collider, the upcoming Hulu reboot of the iconic sci-fi series has officially wrapped filming on its pilot episode. However, whether that pilot will lead to a full series order remains uncertain. Actor Himesh Patel confirmed the news while speaking with Collider during promotions for Enola Holmes 3, noting that only the pilot has been shot and the future of the project is still undecided.
Patel stars alongside Danielle Deadwyler as two original FBI agents assigned to cases involving unexplained phenomena. The series comes from Ryan Coogler and his Proximity Media banner, with Chris Carter attached as executive producer and Jennifer Yale set as showrunner should the project move forward.
In a separate interview with The Direct, Patel confirmed that the series will NOT be reintroducing Fox Mulder or Dana Scully, instead focusing on new characters working within the same universe and investigative framework that made the original series a cultural staple.

The pilot was filmed in Vancouver, BC, the same location that helped define the look and atmosphere of the original series, with Coogler writing and directing. The setup follows two highly decorated but very different FBI agents who are brought together to investigate cases from a long closed division dealing with unexplained phenomena.
While the news is exciting, there is still a sense of caution around the project since Hulu has not yet given it a full series order. At this stage, it remains a completed pilot with no guarantee of continuation.
It is worth noting that Ryan Coogler has been openly discussing his interest in The X-Files long before his recent horror success with Sinners became a major talking point in genre circles. His fascination with strange, unsettling storytelling and myth driven mysteries has been part of his creative identity for years, and it is easy to see why fans are paying close attention to this project. If this reboot does move forward, Coogler feels like a filmmaker who could fully embrace the strange, eerie, and deeply unsettling corners of the X-Files universe, pushing it into even more haunting territory.
Right now though, all that exists is a pilot. And while that is enough to spark excitement, it is not yet enough to confirm a return to a full series. For fans hoping for either a proper revival or a continuation of the legacy, the waiting game continues. We hope more than the truth is out there for us X-Files fans and we get some new cases on the docket.
