Capcom has spent the better part of the last several years digging through the graves of its most beloved Resident Evil titles and giving them a second life. For the most part, fans have been more than happy to watch the corpses rise.
During Summer Game Fest 2026, Capcom officially unveiled Resident Evil Veronica, a modern remake of the fan-favorite 2000 classic Resident Evil Code: Veronica, confirming that Claire and Chris Redfield's nightmare is returning in 2027.
The announcement trailer offers only a brief glimpse of what's to come, teasing a tense encounter inside an apartment building before an ominous intruder crashes the scene. While details remain scarce, one thing immediately stood out to longtime fans: the remake appears to adopt a first-person perspective, following the path established by recent entries like Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village.

For those unfamiliar with the original, Code: Veronica followed Claire Redfield after the events of Resident Evil 2 as she searched for her missing brother Chris. What began as an investigation quickly spiraled into a viral outbreak on a remote prison island filled with infected horrors, twisted experiments, and some of the franchise's most memorable villains.
If we're being honest, Capcom has earned a lot of goodwill with these remakes. We personally loved what the studio accomplished with Resident Evil 2 Remake, which somehow managed to modernize a classic while preserving everything fans loved about it. Even Resident Evil 3 Remake, despite some controversial changes and omissions, delivered plenty of memorable moments and streamlined storytelling that worked surprisingly well.
Sure, certain elements have been altered over the years to help the narrative flow better for modern audiences, but that's part of the challenge when you're resurrecting games that are more than two decades old.

With Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and even Resident Evil 4 laying the groundwork, we have a feeling Resident Evil Veronica is in very capable hands.
Resident Evil Veronica is currently scheduled for release in 2027 on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Now the only question is whether we're emotionally prepared to revisit some of the series' most disturbing moments in glorious modern graphics.
