When most horror fans hear the name Jamie Lee Curtis, their minds immediately go to Laurie Strode standing toe to toe with Michael Myers in Halloween. While that role cemented her place in horror history, Curtis spent the early years of her career building an impressive resume of genre classics that helped define the slasher boom of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
One of our personal favorites has always been Prom Night.

Released in 1980, just two years after Halloween introduced Curtis to audiences, Prom Night delivered everything slasher fans could ask for. A dark secret, a masked killer seeking revenge, a body count that keeps climbing, and enough disco fueled atmosphere to make it one of the most entertaining entries from the golden age of slashers.
Now, Synapse Films is giving the cult classic the royal treatment with an all new 4K Ultra HD release that looks to be the definitive version of the film.
Arriving August 3, 2026, the release features Synapse Films' exclusive world premiere Dolby Vision restoration, created from the original 35mm camera negative. The company has also restored the film's recently discovered original magnetic theatrical audio elements and created a brand new Dolby Atmos mix designed to immerse viewers in every scream, every stab, and every pulse pounding moment from Hamilton High's infamous prom night.

For those who somehow missed this slasher staple, Prom Night follows a group of teenagers carrying a deadly secret. Six years earlier, a reckless childhood game resulted in the tragic death of young Robin Hammond. Now, someone knows exactly what happened and they're ready to make those responsible pay. As prom night unfolds, a mysterious killer clad in black begins brutally eliminating the students one by one, turning what should be a night of celebration into a blood soaked nightmare.
Alongside Curtis, the film also stars Leslie Nielsen years before he became synonymous with comedy through The Naked Gun franchise. Here, he delivers a straight faced performance as a father caught in the middle of the unfolding horror.
Collectors will want to move quickly on this one. Synapse Films has announced that the release is strictly limited to just 3,000 units, making it likely to disappear from shelves fast once preorders begin shipping.

The set is loaded with special features, including an audio commentary with director Paul Lynch and screenwriter William Gray, the feature length documentary The Horrors of Hamilton High: The Making of Prom Night, an episode of Horror's Hallowed Grounds, television cut footage, outtakes, trailers, radio spots, and a newly commissioned slipcase featuring artwork by Sean Longmore.
The 4K and Blu ray discs are both region free and feature Dolby Atmos audio alongside the original theatrical mono soundtrack.

For horror collectors, slasher devotees, and anyone who grew up watching Jamie Lee Curtis outrun masked killers, this looks like an essential addition to the shelf. Four decades later, Prom Night remains one of the most beloved slashers of its era, and this new restoration may be the best the film has ever looked.
Prom Night arrives on 4K Ultra HD August 3, 2026, and is available for preorder now through Synapse Films and select specialty retailers.
