Fresh off her standout turn in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Erin Kellyman steps into leading territory with Woken, a claustrophobic sci fi horror thriller directed by Alan Friel. The film also stars Maxine Peake and arrives on UK digital on 25 May via 101 Films, with availability also extending to standard VOD platforms.

Set on a remote island, Woken follows Anna (Kellyman), a pregnant woman who wakes up after an accident with no memory of who she is, where she is, or how she ended up there. A small group of strangers surround her, including her husband James and neighbours Helen (Peake) and Peter, all trying to piece together a version of reality that Anna cannot remember.

From the outside, the situation appears controlled and safe. But as Anna’s memory slowly returns in fragments, that sense of safety begins to crack. She learns that a pandemic has already swept across much of the world, reshaping what remains of society. What initially feels like confusion and recovery begins shifting into something more unsettling, as inconsistencies in the story around her start to surface.

As she pushes for answers, the environment around her becomes increasingly suffocating. The people caring for her begin to feel less like protectors and more like gatekeepers, and Anna’s suspicion grows that she may not be there by accident.

What starts as a psychological mystery rooted in isolation gradually shifts into a broader post apocalyptic survival story. Anna’s fractured memory becomes the key to understanding what happened, but also the source of her deepest uncertainty, as she struggles to separate truth from manipulation in a world already broken beyond recognition.

Woken uses its remote setting and limited cast to build a slow, tense atmosphere where trust erodes quickly and reality refuses to stay consistent. It is less about spectacle and more about disorientation, control, and the unsettling idea that safety might not be what it seems.

The film arrives on UK digital platforms on 25 May via 101 Films and is also be available through regular VOD services here in the states.
