Netflix Revisits One of America's Most Infamous Unsolved Crimes With "The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey"

Nearly 30 years later, the murder of JonBenét Ramsey remains one of the most heavily scrutinized and debated cases in American true crime history.

Now, Netflix is returning to Boulder, Colorado, for a new limited series that will explore the case, the investigation, and the media storm that followed with The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey.

The series will examine the tragic death of the six-year-old beauty pageant contestant, whose murder on Christmas night in 1996 captivated the nation and sparked endless questions that remain unanswered to this day.

Following JonBenét's death, the case became a media phenomenon unlike almost anything seen before. The investigation was filled with controversy, including criticism over how evidence was handled, conflicting theories, and intense public speculation surrounding those closest to her.

The Ramsey family, particularly parents John and Patsy Ramsey, became the center of public suspicion after investigators discovered inconsistencies surrounding the case. For years, many questioned whether someone inside the family was responsible, while others believed an intruder was behind the crime. The Ramseys maintained their innocence, and no one has ever been convicted for JonBenét's murder. Later DNA evidence led authorities to clear the Ramsey family of suspicion.

The new Netflix series will explore those competing theories, the investigation that followed, and the lasting impact the case had on true crime culture.

A Story That Has Never Left the Public Consciousness

On December 26, 1996, JonBenét Ramsey was found dead inside the basement of her family's Boulder home. The discovery came after Patsy Ramsey reported her daughter missing and alerted authorities to a ransom note found inside the house. Despite decades of investigation, thousands of tips, and numerous theories, the case remains officially unsolved.

The tragedy also continued to follow the Ramsey family long after the investigation faded from daily headlines. Patsy Ramsey, who became one of the most recognizable figures connected to the case, died on June 24, 2006, at age 49 after battling ovarian cancer.

Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Melissa McCarthy, Anne Sewitsky, Harrison Query, and Tommy Wallach.
