Macabre Spirits Unveils SALTSPRAY Rum With New Original Horror Story And Collector Bottle

Macabre Spirits is back at it again, and this time they are leaving whiskey behind to sink into something a little more dangerous. Their latest release, Saltspray, marks the brand’s first venture into rum, and it comes with all the usual chaos you would expect from a horror minded spirits label.

Founded by Matthew Lillard and producer and writer Justin Ware, Macabre Spirits has built a reputation for pairing high end alcohol with original horror fiction. Saltspray continues that tradition, this time built around a 90 proof Jamaican rum, an original story by Bram Stoker nominated author Gemma Amor, and artwork from Daniele Serra.

The release leans hard into presentation. A limited run black glass bottle sits at the center of the package, designed as much for display as for drinking, backed by the accompanying story and collectible presentation. It officially goes on sale June 23, 2026, exclusively through FindFamiliarSpirits.com and Seelbach’s.

According to co-founder Justin Ware, the idea for rum had been sitting on the shelf for a while until the right story finally surfaced.

“We’ve wanted to do a rum for a while, but we hadn’t found the right story to inspire us. When Gemma pitched us the idea for Saltspray, we knew it was the perfect time to take the plunge. Inspired by the cliffs of her native England, Gemma has written a tale about hidden secrets that’s creepy and monstrous but also intimate and all too human—just the way we like it.”

Details on the narrative itself are being kept quiet, but the theme leans heavily into maritime dread, the kind of story that feels like it belongs somewhere below deck where things are definitely not fine.

Saltspray is the third collaboration for Macabre Spirits. The first release, Rare, Fine & Limited, paired sotol with a novella from filmmaker Mike Flanagan. The second, Hell Is Not Mocked, brought a Texas whiskey together with a story by Christopher Buehlman.

The brand also continues to grow its broader horror lineup, including Ghost Face Vodka, which is set for a nationwide rollout this fall.
