Lionsgate Announces New "SAW" Video Game In Development

Written By: Luis Vox

Lionsgate has confirmed that a new AAA "SAW" video game is in the early stages of development, part of the company’s broader push into major game adaptations of its biggest franchises. This announcement follows horror powerhouse Blumhouse’s recent acquisition of a stake in the "Saw" franchise rights. This is a deal that brings original creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell back into the fold as Blumhouse and Lionsgate collaborate on future films and related properties, as we have learned.

During Lionsgate’s second quarter 2026 earnings call, Motion Picture Group chairman Adam Fogelson spoke about the company’s growing push into the video game space. According to the call transcript published by Seeking Alpha, Fogelson noted that Lionsgate is seeing strong momentum and expanding possibilities when it comes to developing high-budget games based on its film properties.

He pointed to "John Wick" and "Saw" as two franchises drawing particular attention from the gaming industry, with additional titles expected to be revealed in the near future. Fogelson emphasized that interest from partners is rising and that these projects are progressing as planned, suggesting that Lionsgate views AAA game development as a significant new revenue stream that could have a noticeable financial impact in the years ahead.

So far, only two "Saw" games have ever been released. The first, "Saw: The Video Game", debuted in 2009, and the second, "Saw II: Flesh & Blood", launched in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Both titles received middling reviews at best and would be considered closer to double-A quality by today’s standards rather than true "AAA" production.

A new "AAA" "Saw" game throwing its hat into the ring against survival horror heavyweights like "Resident Evil" or "Silent Hill" is exactly the kind of escalation fans have been waiting for. Whether it will live up to the franchise’s gruesome potential or turn into something players wish they could escape remains to be seen.

We'll keep you posted on any and all news as we get it.
