Here at TrulyDisturbing, we proudly wear the title of physical media addicts. As kids of the '80s and '90s, there was nothing better than heading to the local video store, grabbing a stack of tapes or discs, and spending the weekend getting lost in another world. While streaming may be convenient, nothing replaces owning a film you love, especially when it's given the restoration it deserves.
One title we've always hoped would receive that treatment is Interview with the Vampire.
Despite becoming a beloved gothic classic, the film was famously plagued by production challenges behind the scenes. Brad Pitt has spoken openly over the years about being unhappy during filming and even considered leaving the production altogether. Somehow, all of that turmoil never found its way onto the screen. More than 30 years later, Interview with the Vampire has become something of a comfort movie for horror fans, blending romance, tragedy, and gothic horror into one unforgettable experience.
Now, with the renewed popularity of Anne Rice's vampire universe thanks to AMC's critically acclaimed television adaptation, the timing couldn't be better for the original film to receive the deluxe treatment.
Warner Bros. has announced that Interview with the Vampire will arrive on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and 4K SteelBook on October 5, featuring a brand new remaster along with newly produced bonus features reflecting on the making of the film more than three decades later.
Directed by Academy Award winner Neil Jordan, the 1994 adaptation of Anne Rice's bestselling novel stars Tom Cruise as the charismatic and ruthless Lestat, Brad Pitt as the conflicted Louis, Antonio Banderas as Armand, Stephen Rea, Christian Slater, and a scene-stealing Kirsten Dunst, whose performance remains one of the film's greatest accomplishments.
The film earned Academy Award nominations for Best Original Score and Best Art Direction, and continues to stand as one of the most lavishly produced vampire films ever made.
The new 4K release includes two brand new featurettes for longtime fans.
Eternal Night and Deadly Light sees director Neil Jordan and editor Mick Audsley discussing the film's striking cinematography and the gothic visual style crafted alongside cinematographer Philippe Rousselot.
The second featurette, Interview with the Vampire: Creating the World, reunites Jordan with legendary production designer Dante Ferretti for a behind the scenes look at the elaborate sets, lavish costumes, and beautifully realized locations that helped bring Anne Rice's haunting world to life.
Collectors will also find returning bonus material, including deleted scenes, Neil Jordan's feature commentary, an introduction from Anne Rice, Neil Jordan, and Antonio Banderas, along with the documentaries In the Shadow of the Vampire and Lestat, Louis and the Vampire Phenomenon.
Whether you're revisiting Louis' tragic confession or watching Lestat steal every scene he's in, this looks to be the definitive home video release the film has long deserved.
