The Dark Horse Comics machine just keeps cranking out nightmares, and this time it’s sending them straight out to sea.
A brand-new Hellboy Universe mini-series has been announced, bringing together Mike Mignola, Chris Roberson, and Christopher Mitten for "The Foundry: In Peril on the Seas", a four-issue run that dives headfirst into Queen Victoria’s paranormal task force. Yes, that sentence is doing a lot, and somehow it still undersells it. There's gonna be a lot to unpack here, folks.
Set to launch in August 2026, the series follows the crown’s secret band of investigators as they deal with the kind of supernatural problems that don’t exactly make it into history books. Pulling from corners of the Hellboy mythos like Witchfinder and Hellboy: The Silver Lantern Club, this one looks like a full-on gothic globetrotting nightmare with saltwater in its lungs.
FROM THE PRESS RELEASE:
“Long before Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. were out there saving the world from every nightmare imaginable, the men and women of the Foundry were the ones safeguarding Queen Victoria’s Empire,” explains writer Chris Roberson. “But these weren’t paranormal experts. The Foundry’s operatives were adventurers and explorers, more focused on science than the supernatural. They weren’t chasing ghosts. They were interested in what could be done with the artifacts they uncovered, and what kind of engineering breakthroughs could come from ancient discoveries. In The Foundry: In Peril on the Seas, Major Karam Singh and his fellow agents set out to track down a mysterious threat targeting both enemies and allies, with no clear idea if they’re hunting a monster or something even worse.”
“This is a really fun corner of the universe in which to wander and explore; finally seeing the Foundry in more detail than we have before is exciting,” adds Mitten. “Chris, as he always does, infuses the book with such intrigue and heart, giving all these characters their proper moments to shine. He’s a remarkably gifted writer, and he makes it all feel effortless. Having the chance to again work with this team, these wonderful people with whom I’ve been telling these stories for the last decade, is truly such a joy.”
