We'll never forget the first time we watched John Carpenter's Halloween.
We were around 10 years old when we first met Laurie Strode, Annie Brackett, Lynda van der Klok, and Bob Simms. They weren't action heroes. They weren't monster hunters. They were just high school kids trying to enjoy Halloween night when a silent psychopath with a speaking problem showed up wearing a painted Captain Kirk mask and started slaughtering people. Like so many horror fans, that film made us believe in the Boogeyman.

We felt every ounce of Laurie Strode's terror as Michael Myers stalked the streets of Haddonfield. We cheered every time she fought back. We thought she had won. Then Michael sat up behind her, and horror history was made. "I shot him six times", still echoes in our head every once in awhile nowadays.
Now, nearly 50 years later, fans are finally getting the chance to experience that nightmare firsthand.
The team behind Halloween: The Game has announced that players will be able to step into the roles of several beloved characters from Carpenter's 1978 masterpiece, including Laurie Strode, Annie Brackett, Lynda van der Klok, and Bob Simms.

According to the game's official website, the developers worked closely with Malek Akkad and Compass International Pictures to create reimagined versions of the iconic characters while remaining faithful to the spirit of the original film.
While Michael Myers will remain the centerpiece of the experience, the game also aims to tell the story of that fateful Halloween night through the eyes of the young people whose lives were forever changed by The Shape's rampage.

The voice cast for the legacy characters includes Nicholas Leung as Bob, Angela Carbone as Lynda, Kaitlyn Robrock as Annie, and Chelsea Krause as Laurie.
Each character will feature a standard outfit, along with unlockable alternate costumes that can be earned through gameplay achievements.
The announcement also revealed the game's initial roster of playable civilians, which includes Jennifer, Tanya, Rachel, Eric, Marcus, Thomas, Bob, Lynda, Annie, and Laurie.

For decades, horror fans have watched Halloween and imagined what it would be like to survive that night. To run through the dark streets of Haddonfield. To hear the hedge rustle behind you. To catch a glimpse of that pale white mask standing motionless beneath a streetlight. To desperately search for help while nobody believes you.
That's exactly what Halloween: The Game appears to be offering.
The asymmetrical multiplayer survival horror experience will allow players to work together as survivors while attempting to evade Michael Myers, alert authorities, and survive the longest night of their lives. For those who prefer to embrace the darkness, players will also be able to take control of Myers himself and become the Boogeyman.
More and more, this is starting to look like the Halloween game fans have been waiting decades to play.
After all these years, we finally get the opportunity to be one of those terrified Haddonfield teenagers running for our lives on Halloween night. Good thing its all just a video game...right?
Halloween: The Game arrives September 8, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
