Fans claim they've gone months—even years—without receiving promised magazines, while refund requests and communication concerns continue to surface online.

For generations, Famous Monsters of Filmland has been more than a magazine. It has been a gateway into the world of monsters, horror cinema and the imagination of countless fans who grew up discovering creatures, filmmakers and legends through its pages. One of our favorite bands of all time, The Misfits, even "borrowed" the Famous Monsters font for thier icon logo and album covers. Hell, they even released a 90s album titled "Famous Monsters", if that doesn't count as setting a standard, we don't know what does. 

When musician Corey Taylor became involved with reviving the iconic publication in 2022, longtime Monster Kids hoped the legendary brand was entering a new era. After all, few names in horror publishing carry the same history or cultural impact.

But years after the relaunch was announced, questions are beginning to surround the future of the magazine, leaving fans, subscribers, and contributors wondering what comes next.

According to multiple members of the horror community, including individuals who were originally commissioned to contribute writing for the publication, several contributors say they have been left waiting for updates regarding their work. Those writers claim completed material remains sitting on personal hard drives, awaiting either a new publishing agreement or direction from Famous Monsters management regarding when or if that content will be used.

Issue #3 was said to be at the printers, yet has never been released. 

Now we must make a clear distinction: this is in regard to the printed edition of Famous Monsters and not the online website, which, as of this writing, hasn't been updated since August 18th of 2025. 

At this time, TrulyDisturbing has not been able to independently verify every individual claim regarding contributor agreements or compensation. However, multiple people connected to the project have expressed frustration over a lack of communication and uncertainty surrounding the magazine's future.

The concerns are not limited to contributors.

Across horror forums and online communities, subscribers have also voiced frustration regarding missing issues, delayed fulfillment, and unanswered questions surrounding the publication's third issue. Some fans claim they purchased subscriptions or preorder packages expecting additional issues that have yet to arrive.

Several customers have stated they received the first two issues released during the relaunch period in 2022 and 2023 before communication appeared to slow down. Others have claimed they attempted to contact the company regarding their subscriptions, refunds, or future publication plans but did not receive satisfactory responses. Some subscribers say they eventually contacted their financial institutions to dispute charges after prolonged delays. Issue #3 in particular was stated to have gone to the printers over 38 weeks ago and has yet to see the light of day or reach the subscribers' hands in any way. 

While online discussions and customer complaints should always be viewed with caution, the volume and consistency of these concerns have raised questions among fans who simply want clarity about a brand they have supported for decades.

STILL SELLING MERCH JUST NOT ANSWERING QUESTIONS

Adding to the uncertainty is the fact that Famous Monsters remains visible within the horror community. The brand has appeared at various conventions across the country, continuing to sell merchandise, artwork, and reprints connected to its legacy. However, whether the magazine itself will continue as a physical publication in the modern horror landscape remains unknown.

WHAT'S A HORROR FAN TO DO?

The future of print media has become increasingly complicated, and many longtime publications have shifted toward digital platforms, limited releases, or collector-focused models. Yet, we just checked, and the Famous Monsters website has not been updated with any type of news since August 2025.  It is possible Famous Monsters could be exploring a new direction, but without an official update, fans and contributors are left trying to piece together what is happening behind the scenes.

At the time of publication, TrulyDisturbing has not located any official statement from Famous Monsters addressing the status of Issue #3, outstanding subscriptions, contributor concerns, or future publishing plans.

For a publication that helped shape generations of horror fans, many are simply hoping this is a temporary silence and not the final chapter of one of the genre's most important names. We'll keep you updated if we learn more.
