Have you been scrolling aimlessly through YouTube to try and find SOMETHING, ANYTHING, that grabs your attention for more than 3 seconds? Well, we have something just for you gore hounds out there. "Family Splatters" is a no-budget, all-guts animated horror-comedy series created entirely by one person, David Smith, who handles everything from writing and directing to animation, music, and voice acting. Yeah, all of it. We don't know how this guy sleeps.
The setup is exactly the kind of unhinged premise we dig. Roddy and Matthew are two forgotten 80s-style slashers who were originally banished to Hell back in the 90s… only to get kicked out again because even Hell couldn’t deal with them. Now they’re stuck in the 2020s trying to navigate modern life, which goes about as well as you’d expect.

Built with a mix of original artwork, animation, and AI-assisted backgrounds, the series leans into that scrappy, underground horror-comedy energy while still feeling weirdly current. It’s messy in the right ways, chaotic by design, and clearly made by someone who just wanted to create something and didn’t wait around for permission to do it. That's the best approach in our honest opinion. Do what you want, and if people dig it, great; if not, at least you do. That's what matters.
Despite its DIY nature, Family Splatters has already made some noise, landing as an Official Selection at the Spooky Empire Horror Film Festival back in 2021.
Right now, you can check out three full episodes, along with a Thanksgiving special titled Satan Saves Thanksgiving, plus original music from the in-universe band ASSHAMMER, all streaming on YouTube. We're metal fans, and this band is hilarious. We truly love it when people don't take themselves seriously, and well, watch for yourself below.
A full season is currently in development for "FAMILY SPLATTERS" but that is all depending on production resources. For now, what’s out there already gives you a solid taste of the chaos.
If you’re into offbeat, low-budget horror with a sense of humor and zero restraint, this one’s already waiting for you.
