"DEVOURMENT" Returns With "Pious Impiety", First New EP in Seven Years

Written by: Sam Santiago

For fans of extreme metal, seven years can feel like an eternity. Thankfully, Texas death metal legends Devourment have emerged from the depths with a brand new release that proves they haven't lost a single ounce of their crushing brutality.

The band's latest EP, Pious Impiety, marks Devourment's first new material in seven years and serves as a vicious reminder of why they remain one of the most influential names in slam death metal.

For those of you unfamiliar, Devourment helped define the sound of brutal slam death metal in the late 1990s. Formed in Dallas, Texas, the band became underground legends thanks to their punishing riffs, guttural vocals, and a level of heaviness that would inspire countless bands in the decades that followed. Albums like Molesting the Decapitated and Butcher the Weak remain essential listening for fans of extreme music and helped cement Devourment's place among the most respected names in the genre.

Now the band is back with Pious Impiety, a release that relentlessly churns through some of the heaviest material they've delivered in years. Packed with bone-crushing grooves, suffocating riffs, and the trademark slam elements that made the band infamous, the EP feels less like a comeback and more like a statement. We here at Truly Disturbing like our music heavy and crushing and Devourment have been doing just that for years and this EP is no different.

Pious Impiety was produced, mixed, engineered, and mastered by Daniel Schmuck, whose previous work includes projects with Power Trip, Frozen Soul, and Creeping Death.

The EP is available now on all major streaming platforms and is currently shipping through Relapse Records.
