Philadelphia's own Devil Master is back. You're not ready...

The blackened punk outfit has announced its new full-length album, Bloody Dreams, arriving Sept. 4 via Relapse Records. Alongside the announcement, the band has released the album's first single and official music video for "You Worms' Vain Delusions," giving fans their first taste of what's to come.

Bloody Dreams leans further into the band's punk roots while embracing psychedelic influences without sacrificing the feral black metal atmosphere that has defined its sound since forming in 2015. So you know this is going to be in our rotation for the next few months after it drops.

According to the band, the album was written entirely by Darkest Prince and presents a deceptive listening experience. While the opening tracks explode with aggressive punk energy, the record gradually descends into increasingly surreal and psychedelic territory.

"The etymology of the word 'gothic' is from the Gothic tribes," says Darkest Prince, setting the scene for what came before and inevitably with Bloody Dreams. "They were called barbaric. Eventually, that word settled into cathedrals, which people thought looked horrific. Literature took its name from the architecture [of the day]. So, our psychedelic blend of black metal and punk is defiant. Literally the marriage and definition of the whole history of the etymology of the word 'gothic,' of the barbarian punk side up to the spiritual, dark, supernatural, gothic evil."

That philosophy extends beyond aesthetics. While Devil Master has long been associated with black metal and punk, Darkest Prince says much of the band's inspiration actually comes from traditional folk music.

"The only thing I'm inspired by is Greek and Andean folk music, as well as Cumbia," Darkest Prince effuses. "Folk is eternal. I think that resonates with people. It's been cultivated forever. It's archetypal, primal. It taps into something across cultures. W. B. Yeats, the Irish poetic/occultist, is my favorite poet, and he described folk music as proud and lonely. That's always resonated with me. OK, I still listen to a lot of G.I.S.M., Bathory, and Vlad Tepes—bands I've liked for a very long time—but that's about as metal as I get. So, there's folk music and punk in us, and there's also a lot of psychedelic influence, too."

Bloody Dreams was mastered by Arthur Rizk and engineered by Davis M. Shubs alongside Grammy nominated engineer Eric Bogacz. The album also features guest appearances from Mirai Kawashima (Sigh), former Power Trip drummer Chris Ulsh, and Ur Èmdr Œrvn (Arkha Sva).

Fans can watch the official music video for "You Worms' Vain Delusions" now, while pre orders and pre saves for Bloody Dreams are available ahead of the album's September release.
