For horror fans who like their slashers ice cold and soaked in blood, Second Sight Films is heading deep into the frozen mountains of Norway this summer with the release of the Cold Prey Trilogy Limited Edition Blu-ray box set.

The acclaimed Nordic horror franchise will receive the deluxe collector’s treatment on July 6, 2026, complete with a brand new slipcase design, newly commissioned artwork, fresh interviews with cast and filmmakers, new audio commentaries, and a massive 120-page book packed with essays and behind the scenes material.

For years, legends have circulated about disappearances in the Norwegian mountains. Some call them tragic accidents. Others suspect something far more sinister lurking beneath the snow.

That nightmare begins in 2006’s Cold Prey (Fritt Vilt) from director Roar Uthaug, who genre fans may also recognize from Troll and Tomb Raider. The film follows five friends heading into the mountains of Jotunheimen for a snowboarding trip that quickly spirals into terror after one of them suffers a serious injury. Stranded with no phone reception, the group seeks shelter inside an abandoned building hidden in the frozen wilderness.

Unfortunately for them, they are not alone.

Waiting in the snow is the Mountain Man, a towering and brutal serial killer stalking the icy terrain in search of fresh victims. What follows is a savage slasher soaked in tension, isolation, and bone crunching violence that helped Cold Prey earn its reputation as one of the strongest modern European horror franchises.

The terror continues in Mats Stenberg’s Cold Prey II, which picks up after the horrifying events of the original film, while Cold Prey III from director Mikkel Brænne Sandemose travels back to the 1980s, where another unsuspecting group finds themselves trapped inside an abandoned hotel while being hunted by the psychotic killer.

While American horror fans often obsess over masked maniacs like Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers, the Cold Prey films carved out their own bloodstained legacy by combining classic slasher brutality with the bleak isolation of the Norwegian wilderness. Snow covered mountains, abandoned hotels, freezing temperatures, and relentless violence make this trilogy feel like a frostbitten nightmare you cannot wake up from.

The Cold Prey Trilogy Limited Edition Blu-ray arrives July 6, 2026 from Second Sight Films and looks destined to become essential shelf candy for collectors of international horror and slasher cinema alike.
