Bloober Team Reveals "LAYERS OF FEAR" Sequel After Cryptic Countdown

Bloober Team Reveals "LAYERS OF FEAR" Sequel After Cryptic Countdown

Written by: Luis Vox

Bloober Team’s mysterious countdown has finally come to an end. On February 15 at midnight, the timer they shared across their social media platforms hit zero, and it did not disappoint.

Many gamers, myself included, assumed it would be a release date announcement or a new trailer for the upcoming "Silent Hill" remake they are developing. However, when Konami announced its own "Silent Hill" Transmission for February 12 with no mention of Bloober Team or their project, the confusion only grew.

Some fans even speculated that the countdown could be teasing a remake of the cult classic "Rule of Rose" from 2006. The theory gained traction after the countdown unexpectedly updated on January 28, featuring an image of a rose alongside a quote attributed to William Blake’s poem "The Sick Rose". The line read, “Some things never leave the walls. They only learn to wait.”

Then, at the stroke of midnight on Valentine’s Day, the mystery was revealed. Bloober Team announced a sequel to their smash hit "Layers of Fear", celebrating the series’ tenth anniversary with the third installment in the franchise.

"Layers of Fear", released in 2015, is a psychological horror game heavily inspired by P.T., the canceled Silent Hills project from Hideo Kojima. It is a first-person walking experience with no traditional combat. Players move through doors into shifting rooms, each offering environmental storytelling, puzzles, and narrative progression. The game relies on atmosphere, disturbingly realistic visuals, and mind-bending sequences to explore themes of loss, heartbreak, betrayal, trauma, and death. "Layers of Fear 2", released in 2019, served as more of a thematic and spiritual successor rather than a direct continuation, introducing a new protagonist and a different story centered on personal experience and psychological unraveling.

Both entries were well received by critics and fans alike. Here at Truly Disturbing, we are excited to see what panic-inducing nightmare Bloober Team has prepared this time.

No release date has been announced yet, but a trailer has been released. How do you feel about the reveal? Were you hoping for Silent Hill or even Rule of Rose?
