If you’re in the mood for something that leans hard into possession horror with a side of trauma and straight-up dread, 13 Souls might be worth circling on your calendar.

The new film from award-winning writer and director Paulo Nascimento is set to hit digital platforms on May 25, 2026, courtesy of Seven Tales, and it’s bringing a pretty nasty premise with it.

The story kicks off in the 1970s, where a devastating apartment fire leaves 13 people dead, their bodies burned beyond recognition. With no way to identify them, they’re buried together in unmarked graves in a New Jersey cemetery. That alone feels like a bad omen.

Fast forward years later, and we meet Agne, a 15-year-old girl played by Sienna Belle, who is discovered wandering her apartment while her mother’s body decomposes nearby. It only gets worse from there. After being taken in by her estranged father Ariel, played by Tim Shelburne, and her older sister Nina, Agne begins settling into a life she hasn’t known for a decade… but something is clearly off.

Naturally, things don’t stay normal for long.

As Ariel returns to work as a cemetery caretaker, Agne becomes fixated on the graveyard, specifically the 13 unmarked graves tied to that long-ago fire. From there, the film leans hard into its supernatural angle, with Agne seemingly falling under the influence of something dark and violent. What follows is a slow descent into chaos as she begins tormenting her own family, with her sister becoming the primary target.

Because what’s a possession story without the threat of total destruction?

Desperate to stop whatever has taken hold of his daughter, Ariel turns to an unconventional priest who may have his own ties to the original tragedy. Whether that’s enough to save Agne, or if she’s already too far gone, is where the film looks to deliver its biggest punches.

Blending themes of reincarnation, grief, and demonic influence, 13 Souls is aiming for that uncomfortable space where family drama and supernatural horror collide. The setup alone has all the makings of a slow-burn nightmare that escalates into something far more brutal.

13 Souls arrives on digital May 25, 2026. If possession horror is your thing, this one looks ready to test your limits.
