SLASHER WORLD Brings Horror, Collectibles, and Nostalgia to Melrose [Location Review]

Melrose Blvd in Los Angeles just got a whole lot scarier.

Earlier this year, a new horror store called Slasher World rose from the depths, and Lacey of the Dead and I were fortunate enough to visit recently.

To say this is one of the coolest new horror spots in LA would be an understatement. The second you walk in, you’re greeted with a giant sunflower-spectacled head of Art the Clown from the Terrifier series, and it only gets better from there.

The amount of fanfare and photo ops is a joy to see. Your eyes always have something to lock onto. You’ll spot Freddy’s glove bursting out of the wall, Michael Myers standing on the porch of his family home, and Ghostface staged in a makeshift kitchen, complete with prop knives and cordless phones on the counter, just to name a few.

There’s also plenty of merch and collectibles available for purchase. You’ll find everything from horror shirts and books to home décor, bobbleheads, and action figures.

Slasher World is also the new home of a local staple, Slashback Video, a pop-up VHS video store that hits old-school fans right in the nostalgia. You can’t rent or buy the movies on display, but you will find custom artwork from local artists paying tribute to their favorite films. You can snap a great photo behind the counter, pretending to run the best video store in the world, or kick back on the couch in the employee lounge and cuddle with an official My Pet Monster toy.

Slasher World also promises plenty of events for the local horror community, including one happening this Saturday, April 25. They’ll be hosting a Horror Community Appreciation Party. It’s free to enter, and things kick off at 8 PM. I’ll be there representing Truly Disturbing alongside Lacey of the Dead, so come through and hang out.
