Not Horror. But Still Truly Disturbing.
Old man intro: "The internet is a scary place."
Social media, ChatGPT, and AI have everyone believing anything they see on TikTok or Instagram. I cannot tell you how many people sent me “the bear,” or “the deer,” or “the wolf” trick-or-treat AI video. You know the one where the animal sniffs at the interactive candy bowl on the front porch, the bowl hisses or makes a sound, and the animal freaks out. Click here if you want to check it out.
This is when I learned about SORA, a platform that allows users to turn written prompts into realistic, AI-generated videos in seconds. That is scary shit.
Even memes. People believe anything a meme tells them.
I remember right-wing media outlets posted an image of Bernie Sanders, who led the campus chapter of the Congress of Racial Equality, or CORE. Anyway, these outlets posted an image of Bernie and, in the same meme style and font, wrote: “In 1963, Bernie Sanders was arrested for throwing eggs at Black civil rights protesters. This is the side of Bernie Sanders that CNN and the Fake News Media do not want you to know.”
Total bullshit. But people fucking believed it.
No one wants to do research. God forbid they look at something other than Facebook. But all this got me thinking.
What if I made fake memes and fans of Truly Disturbing just happened to screenshot them and post them on their social media channels? It is like an experiment. We will see if they take off and land. We will know where they originated, yeah?
So have at it, TD fans. Enjoy the truth, pictured below. Be sure to tag Truly Disturbing when you post. Have fun.
