There are crime scenes that leave even seasoned investigators shaken. According to Ohio authorities, this is one of them. This one reminds us of the Wes Craven film "PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS" and that alone is tragic.
16 kids, ranging in age from 1 to 18, were rescued from a home in Vinton County, Ohio, after investigators executed a search warrant on June 30. What they discovered inside has since been described by law enforcement as "horrific," with several children requiring immediate medical attention. Some were transported to nearby hospitals, while others were airlifted to Level I trauma centers because of the severity of their conditions.
Four adults have since been arrested and charged in connection with the case. Authorities identified them as 73 year old Gary Siders Sr., 67 year old Christina Siders, 36 year old Gary Siders Jr., and 33 year old Elizabeth Siders. Each has been charged with 17 counts of child endangerment, including allegations involving serious physical harm. All four entered not guilty pleas during their July 1 arraignments, where bond was set at $300,000 each.

Speaking during a June 30 press conference, Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson did not mince words.
"This is pure evil."
Wilson also confirmed that investigators do not believe human trafficking played a role in the case. According to authorities, the suspects are the children's parents and grandparents.
“The conditions these children lived in were horrific, and we are sickened by it. Fortunately, this tragic chapter has closed, but their recovery will take time,” Sheriff Cain said. “Our investigators will continue following the evidence wherever it leads.”
The investigation has revealed troubling details about the family's living conditions. According to officials, the children had been living in a 1,336 square foot home for approximately four years, with reports indicating they spent much of their time confined to a single room. Authorities also stated that none of the children were enrolled in school. One of the most shocking revelations came when Wilson said the oldest child, an 18 year old who is developmentally considered a minor, could not spell her own name.
Investigators described the children as living in conditions "beyond comprehension," with Wilson comparing the home to "almost third world" conditions and saying the children had been living like "feral animals."
Authorities are continuing to process the property under a second search warrant. Investigators have indicated that the condition of the home is so severe that portions of it may be unsafe to enter.
All 16 children have been placed into temporary protective custody while the investigation continues. Officials have also stated that additional charges remain possible as more evidence is examined.
Cases like this serve as a grim reminder that some of the most disturbing stories aren't found in horror films. They're discovered behind closed doors, often hidden in plain sight.
