Production has officially begun on "JOHN RAMBO", a new origin story that rewinds the clock on one of action cinema’s most enduring figures. Cameras are rolling in Bangkok, Thailand, setting the stage for a gritty look at the years that shaped the man long before the events of "First Blood".
Taking on the iconic role is Noah Centineo, who steps into the boots of a younger Rambo under the direction of Jalmari Helander. Helander made waves with the brutal, crowd-pleasing "Sisu", and his knack for visceral storytelling makes him a natural fit for exploring the raw foundations of the character.

The screenplay comes from Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, whose previous work includes "The Mauritanian" and "Black Adam". Production duties are being handled by a stacked team with deep franchise roots. Kevin King Templeton and Les Weldon return from the "Rambo" and "Expendables" films, joined by Jonathan Yunger for Millennium Media. AGBO is also onboard, with Michael Disco and Angela Russo Otstot producing. Executive producers include Anthony and Joe Russo, along with Trevor Short, Dallas Sonnier, and Amanda Presmyk. Distribution will be handled by Lionsgate.
Rather than revisiting familiar ground, "John Rambo" aims to dig into the experiences and trauma that forged the character audiences first met in 1982. The story is set years earlier, promising a more grounded and character-driven take on the man behind the myth.
Centineo is joined by an ensemble cast that includes Yao, Jason Tobin, Quincy Isaiah, Jefferson White, and Tayme Thapthimthong. With production underway and a creative team clearly intent on doing more than simple nostalgia, this new chapter has the potential to redefine Rambo for a new generation while honoring the grit that made the character iconic in the first place.
