Three brothers in the Philippines butchered their own mother and then ate her organs as part of a ritual killing. The body was found in the 56 year-olds home in Ampatuan, Philippines with several body parts missing. Her 3 sons, Dante, 35, Paroy, 21, and Ibrahim, 18 all deny killing their mother and eating her body parts.
The body was discovered after neighbors reported hearing strange noises coming from the home a few days before the body was discovered. Police arrived and found inside the home a badly mutilated body which was also missing organs and drained of blood.
According to investigators the three brothers ate their mothers body parts raw, as part of a ritual killing. The boys said that they were actually trying to drive away an illness which they thought had been brought by a bad spirit. However all three deny killing their mother. Police are looking into the possibility that the boys had mental disorders after reports stated that the family had a history of that. They are also looking into the possibility that drugs may also be involved.
The family, lived at a family farm at Purok Nabadtog in Barangay Kamasi in Ampatuan. The boys are of the Moro indigenous ethnic Muslim race. Within the community, leaders have stated that he three men killed their mother and feasted on parts of her body as if they were wild animals.
Its not the first time the town has seen acts of violence, the town of Ampatuan was the scene of a mass killing in 2009 when mass graves were found. On November 23, 2009 58 people of the town were on their way to file a certificate of candidacy for Esmael Mangudadatu, vice mayor of Buluan town. However before they could they were kidnapped and brutally killed. The innocent people killed were supporting Mangudadatu who at the time was challenging Datu Unsay mayor Andal Ampatuan, Jr. The son of the incumbent Maguindanao governor Andal Ampatuan, Sr Andal Ampatuan, Jr. was also a member of one of Mindanao’s leading Muslim political clans who did not want to relinquish power. Some of those killed included Mangudadatu’s wife, his two sisters, journalists, lawyers and aides as well as motorists who were witnesses or were mistakenly identified as part of the convoy.
