OPEN GRAVE is a white-knuckle, edge of your seat horror flick. Check out our official review below.
Director: Gonzalo López-Gallego
Stars: Sharlto Copley, Joseph Morgan, Thomas Kretschmann, Eric Richards, Josie Ho
From the opening scene, OPEN GRAVE is a heart-pumping horror thriller. The movie opens with a man who wakes up in a large 6-foot deep pit that is filled with dead corpses. He obviously has no memory of how he got there or why he is there. After a passerby helps him out of the death pit, they wander until they find a house, in which there is a group of people, who–like the ditch man–woke up in the house with no memory of who they are and why they were there. The rest of the movie is the group trying to figure out why they are there, who they are, and how they know each other.
Throughout the movie, we see short flashbacks, and we are given easter egg clues as to their past–but none of them are in order. Basically until the last 5 minutes of the film you wont have any clue to what is going on. However, once it is explained, everything comes together very nicely and it will leave you speechless. Most of the actors are unknown actors, except Joseph Morgan (who is known for his role as Klaus in VAMPIRE DIARIES and THE IMMORTALS). However, all the actors do a fantastic job. One of the actors does overact at some points and for the moment takes away from the film a bit, however, those moments are few and far between.
Overall, the movie is a great movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to end. It kept me guessing what was happening and I was coming up with scenarios in my head–none of them were the “actual” scenario because we are given so little information of the current situation outside of their little world. It is extremely hard to keep an audience (especially a horror audience) captivated for the entire time. OPEN GRAVE achieves that seamlessly. I’m keeping a spot open on my Top List of 2014 for this one–and its only the first week of the year.
OPEN GRAVE is currently available On Demand and Amazon Instant Video.
