Video Games: Facebook’s EVIL GENIUS ONLINE Beta Testing Now Available

EGO Screenshot 3Independent developer Rebellion has today announced that ambitious world domination Facebook game Evil Genius Online has gone into Open Beta.

Gamers can join the beta immediately for free at:

Announced in August of this year, EVIL GENIUS ONLINE has already seen an intense, but hugely promising eight weeks in closed beta, as Rebellion CEO and Creative Director Jason Kingsley explains:

“When we launched the closed beta, we made it a priority to reach out to fans of the 2004 Evil Genius PC game rather than a wider audience. I think it’s fair to say the Evil Genius community voiced some initial concerns about our direction, but it’s these same gamers that not only got behind the game, but played a big part in making it better”.

“They’ve had a really positive impact, without a doubt” adds Steven Archer, Lead Producer on Evil Genius Online.

“Our closed beta testers left no stone un-turned! It wasn’t just top-line features like the game’s balancing or suggesting new characters to introduce. We used a lot of subtle, but important feedback on everything from design, GUI …  even down to the animations in specific objects.”

“With such constructive feedback, the natural next step was to open the beta up to a lot more players. We’ve no idea how a new audience will react – many of them probably haven’t played the original Evil Genius PC game. We can’t wait to see what happens.”

EVIL GENIUS ONLINE is scheduled to release on Facebook in early 2014, and Jason Kingsley believes it’ll join a wave of games coming from developers that will defy the platform’s reputation:

“Free-to-play and browser games aren’t for just one kind of person, or one kind of game. We think Evil Genius Online’ s blend of strategy, black humour, and cutting-edge browser tech will resonate with a lot gamers. Whatever their favourite platform, if they’ve got a browser, they’ll be able to enjoy Evil Genius Online free.”
