The Puppy Rescue Mission is a non-profit organization that fundraises and assists in pet rescue, fostering and re-homing pets of soldiers. Rob Zombie was attracted to The Puppy Rescue Mission during their participation in 2013 Mayhem Festival. In a recent interview with Radio.com, Rob explained, “…a lot of soldiers in Afghanistan would find these dogs and bond with them and sneak them on the bases, even though they weren’t supposed to have them. It was probably the only moment of sanity for these guys, when they spent time with them. Some of the stories I’ve heard are horrible: people would torture these dogs, and kill them for fun. These guys saved these dogs, and really bonded with them. But they weren’t allowed to take them home, and if they could, it was so expensive. That was a cause I could really understand and get behind. Imagine being that far from home and bonding with a dog and then being told to just leave him there and then get on a plane to go home. No way!” (July 30, 2013).
Anna Maria Cannan created The Puppy Rescue Mission in 2012 to fundraise to help rescue “The Lucky Seven” out of Afghanistan where her fiancé was deployed. Due to Anna’s fundraising efforts, several of “The Lucky Seven” are now living stateside along with their respective soldiers. It’s PRM’s mission to continue Anna’s work by fundraising and helping to rescue dogs and cats from Afghanistan for soldiers who wish to have their furry friends brought back from war. These are “Soldiers Saving Puppies…Puppies Saving Soldiers.”
Anna says, “My husband Chris and his dog Bear are the reason Puppy Rescue Mission began. Meeting Rob Zombie is something he truly will never forget. Rob‘s love for animals truly touched both of us. These dogs are the best therapy a soldier could ask for…and Rob is making more of these reunions possible for other soldiers with his incredible generosity. We are so grateful.”
