If you like your sci-fi light and with a heavy dose of British humor, then hold on to your knickers because The World’s End, the much-anticipated conclusion of the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy, hits US theaters soon (August 23). Those in the UK can see the film now.
In The World’s End, darkish comedy masters, Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost, team up once again to offer a tale of a group of childhood friends reuniting to finish the ultimate pub crawl. The only thing standing in their way: freakish robot aliens. Talk about a buzzkill.
Word is fans of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz will find plenty of references in The World’s End. Also be on the lookout for the infamous Cornetto cameo. The previous films in the trilogy each included a Cornetto of varying flavor—strawberry (representing blood) in Shaun of the Dead and blue (representing police) in Hot Fuzz. The World’s End offers green mint chocolate chip (representing aliens).

If sci-fi comedy is up your alley, grab a Cornetto and head to a theater near you on August 12. If it isn’t your bag, then there’s always The World’s End drinking game—developed on a whim by Edgar Wright during the film’s Comic-Con panel. “It’s the easier drinking game of all time,” he says, “ ‘cause this is it: Take a drink every time one of the characters takes a drink.”
Also check out the “Last Call Tour” to find out when Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Edgar Wright are coming to a city near you. They’ll be screening The World’s End and meeting fans of the Cornetto Trilogy. No dates are posted for LA just yet, but Wright indicated that more details (and presumably locations) are forthcoming.
