Cast Grows For Del Toro’s THE STRAIN Pilot

The Strain is a proposed show from Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s novel of the same name. The show’s pilot is starting filming soon and the cast is coming together. Read on for the details.

miguel_gomezDeadline reports Miguel Gomez has landed a regular part in The Strain.

The concept of the story concerns a viral outbreak of vampirism.

According to the site, Gomez will play “Augustin “Gus” Elizalde, a badass gangbanger whose one redeeming trait is his love for his mother.

Fresh out of juvenile hall after serving 18 months for manslaughter, he becomes one of humanity’s most effective warriors in the struggle against the vampires.”

Corey Stoll leads the cast which also includes Kevin Durand and Mia Maestro.

Del Toro is directing the pilot and Bates Motel’s Carlton Cuse is acting as showrunner.

The book’s synopsis goes like this:

When a Boeing 777 lands at JFK International Airport and goes dark on the runway, the Centers for Disease Control, fearing a terrorist attack, calls in Dr. Ephraim Goodweather and his team of expert biological-threat first responders. Only an elderly pawnbroker from Spanish Harlem suspects a darker purpose behind the event – an ancient threat intent on covering mankind in darkness.
