Studio To Co-Finance Paranormal Horror Based on Actual Events

Los Angeles  April 10, 2013 – FilmDistrict announced today that it will co-finance the paranormally themed, elevated horror film THE LAST WORD. Inspired by a true story, the script was written by Ben Ketai. Boss Media’s Frank Mancuso, Jr. will produce the project along with Eric Gores, Peter Facinelli and Rob DeFranco of A7SLE Films, and Peter Schlessel and Lia Buman on behalf of FilmDistrict. The project is slated to commence production this summer with plans for FilmDistrict to release the film domestically in 2014.

Based on actual events, the horror film will focus on the strange and tragic aftermath endured by the participants in the trial of a young man in Texas who was wrongly convicted and executed for the rape and murder of a nun.

The story was originally acquired by Facinelli’s A7SLE Films, which then partnered with Boss Media to develop the project and bring on Ketai to write the script.

“After hearing about this story and reading Ben’s script, we were compelled to work on this unique project,” said FilmDistrict’s CEO Peter Schlessel. “We’re excited for audiences across the world to be disturbed and fascinated by this bone chilling story.”

Mancuso added, “’Based on a true story’ has been overused as a marketing ploy however this film will scorch an indelible imprint on those who see it. The powerful words of this dying man will never be forgotten.”

Ketai’s most recent writing credit includes Chosen, the original series on Crackle starring Milo Ventimiglia.  He also wrote the FEARnet series Devil’s Night and 30 Days of Night as well.

Lia Buman, FilmDistrict’s Executive Vice-President of Acquisitions, Jennifer Nieves Gordon, Boss Media’s Vice President, and Rob DeFranco, A7SLE Film’s Head of Production, will oversee the project on behalf of their respective companies.
