WONDERCON 2013: EVIL DEAD and ARMY OF DARKNESS sequel talk runs rampant

Today was the Sony/ Screen Gems panel at Wondercon for Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead. Some awesome footage was shown and some very hopeful fans heard word about possible sequels for BOTH Evil Dead and Army of Darkness plus even more! Whew! That’s just the tip of the machete folks. Read on for the details.

First there was some sequel talk that went down…

Director Fede Alvarez told the absolutely pumped up crowd in attendance that should his film do well, he has plans to do his sequel while Raimi hopefully does Army of Darkness 2. Then he would like there to be a seventh crossover film which will tie the franchise all together. Bruce Campbell agreed, chiming in that “seven is a nice number.” Whaaaaaaa?

They teased the fans with the fact that Bruce Campbell hinted at he was indeed in the Evil Dead remake and that he could most likely be in a follow up film as well.

Then there was a variation to the official red band trailer screened for those in attendance and then Sam Raimi gave a quick intro and the video that was released earlier in the week by World Star Hip Hop was shown to an electric crowd.

You can watch what they saw below.

Ghost House Pictures is producing the much anticipated remake of The Evil Dead, the film that effectively launched the careers of Sam Raimi (Spider-Man franchise, Darkman, Drag Me to Hell), Rob Tapert (30 Days of Night), and Bruce Campbell, who played the Ash character and was co-producer of the original. They are now back to produce an Evil Dead for today’s audience that’s high on the horror, gore, plot twists, and more from a screenplay written by Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues with Diablo Cody. Executive producers are J.R. Young, Nathan Kahane, Joseph Drake, and Peter Schlessel.
