A new film festival in Texas is using horror for a good cause!
A new film festival has been announced in Texas, and they’re looking for submissions! They are also going to be giving all of the profit from the festival to a local animal shelter, giving horror fans a chance to do some good. This is their third fund raising event. They’ve previously found independent horror films they believed were worthy of the attention and given them a premiere in order to raise funds for the animal shelter. They’ve had so much success that they’ve decided to start a full fledged festival.
The information from the press release is as follows:
We are currently working on our 3rd annual fundraising event! In previous years, we would choose a single, phenomenal, Independent horror film and do a “Texas Premiere of” type thing. Our first year featured the horror/comedy All American Zombie Drugs and last year we showed the award winning horror Brutal. This year we’ve switched things up and decided to go with a full fledged film festival… and so Twisted Tails Film Festival (www.twistedtailsfilmfestival.com) was born! We’ve always had a soft spot for animals so we decided to put our two loves together and create this festival. 100% of all of this year’s proceeds go to a local no-kill animal shelter called Paws in the City.
Submissions opened March 1st and will run through October 1st. We are looking for quality horror shorts and features to showcase this year. We have a three panel submissions board that will go through all the films and choose the ones that fit in with what we are trying to do. Because of the nature of the festival, films that depict any kind of animal violence will not be accepted. At this time, we are still working on securing the venue and booking guests. We will be announcing those guests as they are confirmed. In previous years, our guest list has included Camille Keaton, A. Michael Baldwin, Bill Oberst Jr., composer Alan Howarth, Cleve Hall and many more.
We will have a special screening of the award winning horror film The Orphan Killer with director Matt Farnsworth and star Diane Foster will be in attendance. They have also come on board as our first official sponsors!
The fundraiser will be held December 6th – 8th in Dallas, TX. Our goal is to bring in films from all over and showcase what independent horror is all about all the while helping the homeless animals of the world. We are also seeking sponsors as well so if anyone who shares our love of film and animals wants to sponsor, they can email us at [email protected] for any details.
