The Vampire Diaries fans are currently rejoicing as we speak. We’ve got all the news right here. Read on for the details.
The big news: the CW has finally greenlit a spin-off of the series, expected to post-“TVD” in the Thursday night at 9 p.m. slot — and you’ll be seeing the pilot this season.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the April 25 episode of “TVD” will serve as a backdoor pilot for “The Originals,” a series that will center on the vicious, vindictive and often misunderstood Klaus (Joseph Morgan) as he returns to his old stomping grounds in New Orleans. Doesn’t that sound amazing? Vampires and New Orleans have a long and storied history — there are even vampire tours abounding in Crescent City — so there’s plenty of lore and legend for the show’s creators to play with there.
What we already know: In N’Awlins, Klaus will face off with his former protege Marcel (to be cast). And Australia’s own Phoebe Tonkin, formerly of “The Secret Circle” and currently playing werewolf with a mission Hayley, will also star.
The Vampire Diaries exec producer Julie Plec wrote the pilot and will helm the new show if it goes to series. Alloy Entertainment execs Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo will exec producer, along with Warner Bros. This time around, “VD” head Kevin Willaimson, busy with his new FOX thriller “The Following,” will not be involved.
“TVD” fans, how thrilled are you?
