Guillermo del Toro’s THE STRAIN gets pilot green light from FX

Guillermo del Toro has a ton of films and projects on his plate. Now we add a little more to said plate with a pilot being launched by FX for his novel entitled The Strain. Read on for more.

Deadline reports that his very popular book series The Strain, which he co-authored with Chuck Hogan, has been picked up by FX as a TV pilot. Hogan and Del Toro will co-write the pilot with Del Toro directing and executive producing. Along for the ride will be former “Lost” showrunner Carlton Cuse acting as showrunner and executive producer.

¬†Should the pilot get picked up for series, it is envisioned as a limited run from the beginning. Del Toro says “the books have enough juice to fill three to five seasons of series” and that he would also like to direct as much of it as his feature schedule allows him to.
The setup for the series is as follows: When a Boeing 777 lands at JFK International Airport and goes dark on the runway, the Centers for Disease Control, fearing a terrorist attack, calls in Dr. Ephraim Goodweather and his team of expert biological-threat first responders. Only an elderly pawnbroker from Spanish Harlem suspects a darker purpose behind the event – an ancient threat intent on covering mankind in darkness.
