It’s 10:30 a.m and Creative director John Murdy takes the small, but well placed stage. John opens with an energetic “GOOD MORNING!” and quickly transitions to the topic at hand… Horror.
This year is an exciting one at Universal and especially for John Murdy.
He talks about his inspiration behind the featured mazes which include “THE WALKING DEAD: DEAD INSIDE“, and “WELCOME TO SILENT HILL“. What’s evident is Mr. Murdy’s extreme appreciation for Horror and his stories only further solidify this. He talked of killing off, no pun intended, one full season of AMC’S “THE WALKING DEAD” in one sitting. As he talked about the inspiration behind this years event, you couldn’t help but absorb his excitement and remember the whole reason that everybody was even there… the love of horror.
As we walked into the room we were instantly greeted by some great wardrobe for “WELCOME TO SILENT HILL“, which is a featured maze at this years event. Various pieces of costume were doused in blood with the corresponding pictures displaying the finished product. We walked from display to display and each extremely unique and terrifying in its own right. Among the displays were Pajama girl from the first episode of Season One of “THE WALKING DEAD“, and LEATHER FACE a household name in horror. Surrounded by these awesome displays were a team of makeup artists, headed up by Larry Bones, demonstrating some of the make-up effects that will be taking place this Halloween event.
The transition from man to creature was truly amazing and the finished product will definitely produce some scares at this years Horror nights. Also displayed were some of the various entities that will be present at Alice Cooper’s maze “ALICE COOPER GOES TO HELL 3D”. You can catch an interview with Creative Director John Murday discussing his and Alice’s inspiration behind this maze here.
Overall the Make-up Demo was an awesome experience and provided an extra dose of excitement for the crew here at Truly Disturbing. We can’t wait to see it all put together in full scare mode come this September 21st. Thank you to Universal for this opportunity and A big thank you to John Murdy for providing us an Exclusive Interview which is attached above.
