Get your room key to THE BATES MOTEL

Wait? Norman is back? Well, sort of. Since 1987 there has been a small buzz about a possible origins story for Norman Bates. Now A&E is spearheading this new series.

“Lost” writer Carlton Cruse and “Friday Night Lights” writer-producer Kerry Ehrin will serve as the executive producers brave enough to reopen the “Bates Motel”.

The story is a Psycho prequel series that would explore the twisted relationship between a young Norman Bates and his mother, Norma, at the beginning of the year. Development just fast tracked today, according to Deadline, right into a 10-episode series order for the Universal Television production. A&E has so much confidence in “Bates Motel” they don’t even need to see a pilot episode before putting this series on the air.

We all remember Psycho IV and how it gave Norman a pretty good backstory. I wonder if they will play off that film for the series? Either way, get your room keys handy people.

Mores as it develops.
