No film can match its originality, cast, or sheer gore factor. Of course I refer to Predator. Join us as we celebrate it’s twenty five year anniversary.
There are many elements in the film Predator that make it a classic among horror and scifi fans alike. The pacing and story are epic and Stan Winston’s creature design for the actual Predator has yet to be beat, even with today’s technology.
Some say it is a perfect film. I agree, to a point but this article is not about my opinion of the movie. This article is here to celebrate one of Hollywood’s greatest films Predator.
The film has a cast that just fits perfectly into the plot. Schwarzenegger,Ventura,Weathers, they all have amazing performances in the 1987 film. Many believed Schwarzenegger was the star, but at the end of the credits we all knew that the Predator(or hunter if you prefer) was in fact the star.
Originally Jean Claude Van Damme was portraying the hunter from another world but quit two days into the films production. So Stan Winston along with a little help from James Cameron, created what is now know as the “classic Predator.”(Editor’s Note: James Cameron actually designed and suggested the “hunters” dread locks.)
This is the basic run down of the film in a nut shell just to refresh everyone’s memory.
A team of special force ops, led by a tough but fair soldier, Major “Dutch” Schaefer(Schwarzenegger), are ordered in to assist CIA man, George Dillon(Weathers), on a rescue mission for potential survivors of a Helicopter downed over remote South American jungle. Not long after they land, Dutch and his team discover that they have been sent in under false pretenses. This deception turns out to be the least of their worries though, when they find themselves being methodically hunted by something not of this world.
The film grossed over $98 billion worldwide in 1987 making it a blockbuster hit. Schwarzenegger was originally cast to do a follow up to the film but pulled out later on.
The Predator is the villain in this movie but you can’t help but root for him. He is faster, stronger, and just down right more bad ass than the entire cast!
The success of the movie spawned dozens of merchandising licenses. You can even find Predator Halloween masks and Ice Trays!
This film and it’s characters are burned into the psyche of America’s pop culture. Hell, I even own a few Predator toys…do ya blame me?
Congrats to Predator for standing the test of time and kicking ass to this very day.
We here at TrulyDisturbing.com salute you!
Here’s a little fun for you to feast your eyes on.
How PREDATOR should have ended:
Make sure that this summer it doesn’t get too hot…or ya might get a visit from the big guy himself.
