Video Games: DOOM 3 gets a re-release with new BFG edition

Doom was a game way ahead of its time. Demons, hell, big guns, chainsaws, what more could a horror fan ask for right? If that brought back memories, this announcement will really get ya going. Bethesda has announced the Doom 3 BFG Edition, a new re-mastered version of the game. Read on for more details.

The BFG Edition will include seven new levels called The Lost Mission in addition to the Resurrection of Evil add-on pack (which has also been re-mastered).

The BFG Edition will be available on Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3, marking the first PS3 release of any Doom title. According to Bethesda, the re-mastered version has been “optimized in 3D, featuring 5.1 surround sound and improved rendering and lighting.” The game features a new checkpoint system, Achievements/trophies and, as a “special bonus,” includes both the original Doom and Doom 2.

The new version’s name is a reference to the BFG 9000, an iconic Doom weapon
