Blasphemy! Original artwork for SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK gets replaced in 30th anniversary editions

This just breaks our heart. Why would a publisher ruin these books by taking out the original artwork that was so iconic to Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark? Yeah, we don’t know either, but read on and grab a tissue. We can’t stop crying.

To “celebrate” the 30th anniversary of this book trilogy,Stephen¬† Gammell’s wondrous and deliciously dark artwork is being replaced by the far tamer artwork of artist Brett Helquist. Now we don’t mean to offend Helquist but…WHAT THE HELL IS THIS SHIT!

HarperCollins, the publisher for the books must have had a brain fart of extreme measure to do this to our beloved Scary Stories.

Check out some examples from the “new” editions below . The original artwork is on the left, and the replacement on the right.

As a finally note, we hope you are happy HarperCollins you have made a grown man cry.

This story makes me want to vomit. That artwork was an instrumental part of my upbringing and horror education. Harper Collins can suck it.
